Who Needs a Web Designer?

In the technologically savvy world we live in, who needs a web designer?  Since 2003 when WordPress was created, 58,381,710+ websites and blogs have been built using WordPress. With its easy installation, ease of use, and built-in optimization, anyone and everyone can have their own website. The first time I installed and used WordPress, I spent more time choosing a theme that I liked than I spent setting it up.

Why Hire a Web Designer?

So, why does anyone need a web designer anymore? Thinking about the clients I serve, their main reason for hiring a web designer is because they don’t have the knowledge or the time to do it themselves. They are busy taking care of their small businesses.

Do you find yourself in a similar situation? You know your business needs a website but you can’t find the time to do it yourself. Or maybe you already have a website for your business but it’s seriously out of date. If your website hasn’t changed in years, please consider updating. In this fast-paced, rapidly changing, technology-driven world we live in, you don’t want your small business to be left behind. You could be missing out on new customers every day, or losing current customers because you’re not available 24/7.

What do you do now?

  • You could hire a web design firm, pay them thousands of dollars for a website, and hope to see a return on your investment eventually.

    Do-It-Yourself with WordPress

You could do-it-yourself. You need to consider the time involved and what your time is worth. Not only will you invest time setting up your business website, you must invest the time to stay current on SEO best practices, not to mention updating the website, themes, plug-ins, etc. you are using. I am not saying this is impossible, I just want you to be aware that there is a lot of time involved in building and maintaining a website for your business. If this is the way you want to go, be on the look-out in the coming days, weeks, and months, for information on this site that will help you to get the job done.

Beware of “Get a free website”

Just a side note about the flashy “get a free website” or “build your own website for free” advertisements you may have seen and considered clicking on… Beware. Many, though I can’t say all, of those companies will allow you to build the website for free, but there’s always a catch. Please read the fine print. One of my clients built one of these free sites and was paying a monthly fee to one of these companies. She became frustrated with their lack of customer service so stopped paying them. Her website was vital to her small business and it was gone in the blink of an eye. Come to find out, that was the catch. She didn’t own the rights to her website or domain name, they did. Please be cautious about something that seems too good to be true. It probably is.

  • Or, you could hire another small business whose dream is to help other small businesses by designing, building, and maintaining websites. These small business web designers can create websites just like the large firms, without the overhead, thereby reducing the cost of creating your website. When you really stop to think about how much your time is worth, you will see that hiring me or someone like me is the best investment for your business.

Take the Plunge

So many small businesses don’t have websites and are losing customers on a daily basis. Don’t let it happen to you. Get started right now.

  1. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on
the head. The problem is something which too few
people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I found this
during my hunt for something regarding this.

  2. Great blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?

A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would
really make my blog shine. Please let me know where you got your theme.

  3. I definitely recommend hiring a designer. It’s the way you can be sure your website looks professional. Like you said, updating your site is an essential part of having a successful business. I think the general rule is that if it looks like it was made 3-4 years ago (or more), then it’s time for an upgrade! My recommendation for creating such websites would be http://www.webydo.com because it’s made especially for designers to create beautiful websites without code.
